Leo Sfez Is 19, Locked In, and Building Something Bigger Than Clothes
Leo Sfez
At 19 years old, Leo Sfez is already balancing more responsibilities than most people his age.
The Toronto-based creative is a university athlete, clothing brand founder, and full-time student at York University. On paper, those three worlds might seem impossible to juggle, but for Leo, they all feed into discipline.
Originally from Montreal, Leo launched his clothing brand at 16. What began as sketches in a notebook when he was 13 slowly evolved into something real once he saved enough money to bring his designs to life. The motivation was simple. He wanted to wear clothing that didn’t exist yet.
Growing up, mainstream sportswear brands never fully reflected the aesthetic he imagined for himself. So instead of waiting for something new to appear, he created it.
Music played a major role in shaping his creative instincts. Leo often credits artists like Michael Jackson as early inspirations, not just for sound but for visual storytelling and style. For him, fashion and music have always moved together.
That mindset carried over into the development of his brand, currently known as Unmatched Energy, which now has a rapidly growing online community. Leo sees the brand less as a product line and more as a vehicle for expression A way for people to feel something when they wear the clothes.
But clothing is only one part of his life.
Leo also plays middle linebacker for the York University football program in the Canadian U Sports league, a competitive system with pathways to both the CFL and the NFL. Football, like fashion, requires structure, resilience, and the ability to push through exhaustion.
Managing all three worlds of athletics, business, and school comes with its challenges. Burnout happens. Long nights happen. But Leo sees the pressure as preparation.
He understands that building something meaningful rarely comes from comfort.
Looking ahead, Leo is already thinking beyond clothing. His long-term vision includes rebranding the label simply as Unmatched, expanding its message, and eventually creating community spaces where sports and creativity can coexist. Think modern recreation center for young people.
Because for Leo, success isn’t just about building a brand.
It’s about building a community that reminds people they’re capable of more than they think.
And at 19, he’s only getting started.
